Ok so its not a secret that I am big fan of steampunk and even clockpunk. If you are into neo-Victorian stuff or Steampunk then you are likely to agree that the coolness factor for this device if off the charts. I found this link via BoingBoing to a steampunk moded laptop and its amazing. I wish I could get one. Here is the description from the website.

This may look like a Victorian music box, but inside this intricately hand-crafted wooden case lives a Hewlett-Packard ZT1000 laptop that runs both Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux. It features an elaborate display of clockworks under glass, engraved brass accents, claw feet, an antiqued copper keyboard and mouse, leather wrist pads, and customized wireless network card. The machine turns on with an antique clock-winding key by way of a custom-built ratcheting switch made from old clock parts.

Im sure those things would have a lot of collectors value if you bought one now and kept it like for the next 50 years. It would be worth a lot , so it could be a good investment 🙂

azza05, its not just the money, I mean this mod could be sold for a few thousand dollars even now. It more of an aesthetic thing.

Wow, although I don’t think you will carry it around, so it is not really a laptop any longer 🙂

Irving, Br Irving it depends upon how one defines a laptop. Many of the old school laptops were easily heated so most people did not place them on their laps. :p

azz05, yes indeed!
